JURY: KATOPODIS GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS
A federal jury convicted former Jefferson County Commissioner and Birmingham City Councilman John Katopodis on 97 counts of mail and wire fraud Wednesday. Katopodis was accused of using money intended for a children's computer charity for his own personal gain. After the verdict was delivered, Katopodis was immediately taken into custody by U.S. Marshals.
Federal Judge Karen Bowdre has set Katopodis' sentencing for October 28. Katapodis will be held at the Shelby County jail until then. He faces 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 for each count.
