SOUTHSIDE SHOOTING LEAVES MAN INJURED
A man was injured last night on the Southside of Birmingham around 9:30. According to authorities the man injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. Police are not sure of the motive behind the shooting.
A suspect was arrested after a short foot chase that ended several blocks away.
CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TAKE A VOTE
City council members are expected to take a vote today on bingo decree.
Suggestions at Saturday's session included increasing the minimum number of electronic bingo machines from 500 to 1,000, requiring a detailed security plan, prohibiting bingo halls from locating in shopping centers and restricting the halls to one per council district.
WEST JEFFERSON COUNTY VOTES TODAY
Special primary election for the Alabama House District 56 will be held today. Election officials foretell only 5 or 6 percent of registered voters will turn out.
The House district consists of North Johns, most of Bessemer and Lipscomb, parts of the Brownville community in Birmingham unincorporated Jefferson County, and small parts of Brighton, Hoover and Hueytown.
The four-person field features Bessemer City Councilwoman Louise Alexander, previous state Representative Lawrence McAdory and businesswoman Claire B. Mitchell and Margie Varner.
All candidates have stressed economics, education and health care in their platforms.
