ALABAMA VS. TEXAS
No. 1 Alabama will play No. 2 Texas in the BCS national championship game.
Texas struggled to beat Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game Saturday night. This led to doubt in people minds about whether the Longhorns would indeed earn a trip to Pasadena, California, for the Jan. 7 title game.
Alabama cruised into the national title game, wining the SEC championship with a 32-13 victory against defending national champion Florida.
13 TO BECOME BIRMINGHAM MAYOR
Voter fatigue could mean low turnout in Tuesday's special election for mayor of Birmingham.
The mayor's race was officially declared on Nov. 2, five days after a federal jury convicted former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford on 60 counts of corruption.
Thirteen candidates are running to succeed him.
MAN SHOT BY BIRMINGHAM POLICE
A man was shot yesterday morning around 1 a.m. at 4th Avenue and Goldwire Street by Birmingham police.
According to authorities two officers from the South Precinct stopped a man walking through the neighborhood. During an interview with the man, a struggle began and the man pointed a handgun at the face of one officer. An assisting officer fired his weapon, striking the subject.
The man was taking to UAB Hospital without life threatening injuries. The officers were not injured.
CANDIDATE FOR BIRMINGHAM MAYOR DEAD
One of the candidates for Birmingham mayor was found dead in his home Thursday night.
Officers say 49-year old Ernie Dunn died at his home in Hoover. A neighbor saw Dunn's front door partially open and found him lying on the floor.
According to authorities medical problems lead to his death.
MAYORAL RECOUNT
A city councilwoman who sought to become Atlanta's first white mayor in a generation is expected this week to formally request a recount of last week's runoff result.
Former state Sen. Kasim Reed edged out Mary Norwood by only 715 votes in the Dec. 1 contest. The results of the race were certified by the Fulton County Board of Elections on Sunday.
After the request is made, a recount would take place the following business day beginning at 10 a.m.
NEW AD CAMPAIGN
The Obama administration today releases a new batch of television and radio ads to counter the illness that's already infected millions.
The CDC estimates some 22 million people have been infected with swine flu and 3900 have died from it. That also includes nearly a hundred thousand hospitalizations.
