DRIVER KILLED ON HIGHWAY 280
The driver of an 18-wheeler is dead following an accident at the Red Mountain Expressway southbound at the eastbound ramp to Highway 280.
The truck flipped on its side as it attempted to exit Red Mountain Expressway.
The ramp will be closed until further notice.
HOOVER BUS SERVICE
Birmingham-Jefferson County transit authority approves compromise proposal to save Hoover bus service.
The transit board voted 5-1 to accept $30,117.50 from the city of Hoover for bus service provided in fiscal 2009 instead of the $60,235 the transit authority previously billed the city.
Board Chairman Guin Robinson said this was the best that could be done and the best way to resolve the disagreement with Hoover and hopefully keep buses rolling in Hoover.
ALABAMA GETS ACCREDITED LAW SCHOOL
The American Bar Association has put its seal of approval on Faulkner University's Jones School of Law in Montgomery, making it the third accredited law school in Alabama.
Jones Law dean Charles Nelson says accreditation will make it easier to recruit both qualified faculty and out-of-state students.
ALABAMA FORECLOSURES FALL IN NOVEMBER
Alabama's foreclosure activity dipped 12 percent in November from the previous month, placing it in the middle of the pack among other U.S. states.
According to mortgage researcher RealtyTrac, last month, there were foreclosure fillings on 2,145 Alabama properties, or in every 996 housing units.
Alabama's foreclosure rate ranks No. 31 among the states.
FUNERAL SET FOR RETIRED BIRMINGHAM POLICE
Funeral services have been set for a retired Birmingham police captain who was killed in a car wreck Monday evening.
Gary Childs, 61, car flipped and landed in a wooded area just before 6 p.m. in the 2900 block of Riverview Road.
Viewing will take place Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Ridout's Chapel at 2116 University Blvd. Funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Cathedral at 2120 Third Ave. N.
