Alabama Attorney General Troy King says he will not intervene or take over Governor Riley's task force on illegal gambling. At a news conference Wednesday in Montgomery, King said although it's his duty as the state's top law enforcement officer to intervene in the controversial and irresponsible action of the task force and to direct Tyson's action, "out of deferential respect for the Governor," Kings says assuming direction over Mr. Tyson is "not an option he's willing to exercise--yet."

"The task force's pending armed confrontation with armed Greene County authorities, left me but no choice but to consider this option," said King. "It is beyond comprehension, that we now find ourselves in position where armed law enforcement in Greene County, may soon be confronted by armed state troopers, all in the name of the rule of law."

King implored Governor Riley, as friend, a former legal advisor and Attorney General, to implement a specific and responsible three point plan to deal with illegal gambling which include the task force's commander to file simultaneous and expedited actions seeking declaratory judgments in Macon, Greene, Lowndes and Houston counties over the question of whether those counties amendments, enabling statutes, local rules and regulations, and ratification debates permit electronic bingo in those jurisdictions.

Although King says he opposed gambling, King called on the Alabama Legislature to settle the matter once and for all, to allow the people of Alabama decide if they want electronic bingo in their state at the ballot box.
