BINGO BATTLE
A debate is scheduled for tomorrow in the full Alabama Senate next week on a bill that would allow electronic bingo casinos to operate in ten points of destination locations. Such casino's would be taxed and regulated by the state of Alabama.
Senate Bill 380 would also create a new five member state gaming commission. If the measure passes voters would cast ballots in a referendum on November 2nd.
VONETTA FLOWERS RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL
UAB Olympic gold medalist Vonetta Flowers has been released from a hospital after being slightly injured during a motorcade accident at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.
Flowers and fellow Olympic gold medalist Peggy Fleming were riding in Vice President Joe Biden's motorcade when the accident occurred. They were both taken to a hospital as a precaution.
UAH PROFESSOR FACES ADDITIONAL MURDER COUNTS
Attempted murder charges have been added against the UAH professor accused of shooting six colleagues during a faculty meeting.
Amy Bishop was arrested Friday and charged with capital murder and three counts of attempted murder. According to a jail employee the charges were added Sunday.
Investigators have declined to discus a motive.
CIVIL RIGHTS ICON RELEASED
Civil Rights icon Joseph Lowery has been released from an Atlanta hospital after two weeks.
The 88-year-old Lowery was admitted to the hospital two weeks earlier with a blood clot in his lungs.
He stood with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement and offered the benediction at President Barack Obama's inauguration last year.
