Friday, January 17th:

MLK Commemoration Ceremony 

WHERE: Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium | 620 19th Street S, Birmingham, AL 35233

WHEN: 11:30AM-1PM

The Heersink School of Medicine invites you to attend the 2025 commemoration. This year’s keynote speaker will be Lisa McNair, author of “Dear Denise: Letters to a Sister I Never Knew” and sister to Denise McNair, one of the four girls who tragically lost their lives in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 1963. Special performances will be given by the Miles College Golden Voices Choir, and a poetry reading by Ashley Jones. Lunch will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

MLK Day 5K Drum Run 

WHERE: History Park | 1700 4th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203

WHEN: 8AM

Get ready for a vibrant celebration of the MLK Day holiday weekend with the 9th Annual MLK Day 5K Drum Run Birmingham, presented by the Leftover Energy Foundation Inc. Join us at the 4th Avenue Historic District History Park, 1700 4th Ave North, Birmingham, AL 35203. The Metro Birmingham Chapter of the SCLC, in collaboration with Name Ministries, is proud to present the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast, honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King. This significant event will take place on January 18, 2025, at 9:00 AM at New Bethlehem Baptist Church.

MLK Gospel Concert

The SCLC Birmingham Metro Chapter proudly presents the MLK Gospel Concert, a powerful celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Join us on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 3 PM at First Baptist Church Acipco, located at 1629 32nd Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35207. Hosted by Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd and Rev. Dr. R.L. Patterson, this inspiring event will feature uplifting performances by the Lawson State Community College Choir, Allen Pruitt & Call to Worship, the Jackson-Olin High School Choir, and many more talented groups. This celebration of faith, unity, and community honors Dr. King’s dream through the power of gospel music, bringing together voices from across Birmingham to commemorate his impact on civil rights and social justice. Don’t miss this moving tribute to one of history’s greatest leaders.

 

Monday, January 20th: 

MLK Day Birmingham Litter Cleanup – District 1 

WHERE: 200 Roebuck Drive, Birmingham, AL 35206

WHEN: 9AM-11AM

Join us for the MLK Day Litter Cleanup, a meaningful day of service to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy at 9am 200 Roebuck Drive. The event lasts two hours and will focus on roadside cleanup in areas that may not have sidewalks, so please only participate if you feel comfortable in this environment. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Reserve your spot here.

23rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr Breakfast & Youth Participation Day 

WHERE: Anniston City Meeting Center |1615 Noble Street, Anniston, AL 36201

WHEN: 9AM

The breakfast is an annual event sponsored by the City of Anniston Good Choices Program. Its purpose is to commemorate the legacy of Dr. King while imparting to our youth the importance of perpetuating his vision of a united and non-violent society. The program showcases local youth engaging in dance or showcasing their poetic excellence through diction and more! MLK Solidarity March 

WHERE: Birmingham City Hall | Linn Park Side

WHEN: 10AM – Lineup | 11AM – March

The SCLC Birmingham Metro Chapter, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. R.L. Patterson, invites the community to join the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Solidarity March. The march will begin with a lineup at 11:00 AM at Birmingham City Hall (Linn Park side), with the march itself starting at 12:00 noon.

 

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Worship Service 

WHERE: Metropolitan AME Zion | 1530 4th Ave N

WHEN: 1PM

The Birmingham Metro Chapter of the SCLC invites the community to join them for the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Worship Service at 1:00 PM. This uplifting service will be held at Metropolitan AME Zion Church.
